What does this year hold?
What will it offer? In a world of noise and cacophony, can we really quiet our lives? Maybe this could be the year of disengaging. Of saying 'No." Of laying aside good things in order to attain great things.
If noise is the norm, let me off the ride. I want to stop.
Life has become so busy. So chaotic. So filled with stuff to do. Could this finally be the year that we shake off the burden of busy?
Could we finally stop glorifying "no days off?"
Work hard, yes. Your creator demands it.
But let's stop fooling ourselves into believing that wearing ourselves physically, emotionally, & spiritually thin is beneficial in any way. That Jesus is proud of all the stuff we are doing "for him" all while we neglect our health, bodies, families, relationships, and ultimately, our God.
I think for most of us, if we could hear an audible word from God, it would be two simple words. Two words that, if we really took them to heart, would change our entire trajectory. Two words that fall from the lips of a begging Messiah, desperate to see us whole and redeemed and restored. Two words that would set us free.
That's it. No magic formula. No revelation.
If God, the creator of everything, chose to rest, shouldn't that tell us something? That he built rest into the fabric of creation? That when he hemmed in the galaxies, the thread he used was rest.
We can't escape it. We can't be above it. We all succumb to it, whether it is forced on us or chosen of our own volition.
Will you join me in saying "no" to stuff this year? Good stuff. Say no, so that you can say "yes" to life-giving rest? To become all that your God intended you to be?
